Brasserie Transylvania Erdélyi Étterem
About This Spot
Brasserie Transylvania Erdélyi Étterem is the kind of place that feels like a quiet secret tucked away from the city’s clamor, a small refuge on bustling Green Lanes where the rhythm slows down to something warmer and more personal. The moment you step inside, there’s an inviting intimacy—the cozy furnishing, the subtle hum of Hungarian melodies, and the soft murmur of conversation create a space that’s rooted in familiarity rather than flash.
It’s a neighborhood gem where time seems to stretch just enough to savor good company and carefully prepared meals that echo generations of home kitchens. The air carries gentle notes of paprika and herbs, inviting you to linger over bowls of richly spiced soups or generous plates that feel like a family offering rather than a hurried meal. The service adds a layer of connection too—there’s a genuine kindness, a willingness to share stories and recommendations, even across language nuances, which makes the experience feel less like dining out and more like being welcomed into someone’s cherished haven.
This is not a place about fuss or formality. Instead, it’s where the unpretentious, soulful flavors of Transylvania and Hungary meet London’s multicultural heartbeat in a way that feels both grounded and quietly celebratory. Whether you’re dropping by for a comforting goulash, curious to try the traditional sweet treats, or simply seeking a moment of calm with a warm cup of coffee, here the pace invites you to pause and enjoy the small details — the fresh, crusty bread that arrives with your meal, the layered aromas from the kitchen, the subtle smiles exchanged over the table.
Brasserie Transylvania is the kind of spot that makes you want to come back—not just for the food but for the atmosphere that lingers like a soft echo after you’ve left, a reminder of the unique, human moments that make London’s diverse neighborhoods truly special.

Yummy schnitzel and goulash from a cosy little restaurant as takeaway. Was lovely chatting with the staff despite the little amount of English one of them spoke. Looking to return at some point to dine in and try some of the interesting spirits behind their bar.

Might have found my new favourite local spot… came for the name and was pleasantly surprised by the charming and characterful decor, Hungarian pop (?) music & the DELICIOUS and generously portioned food. I had the goulash soup and the cabbage rolls but need to come back to try everything else including the desserts. It also came with fresh, warm bread which I ate way too much of so the owner kindly gave me a takeaway box for my main. 10/10 can’t wait to come again

The soup was very similar with the Romanian one and delicious. HUGE cabbage rolls, not my favourite as I think they needed more condiments and ingredients but I guess it's a different recipe. Irma was so lovely and she deserves a pay raise

What an amazing place! It's super small and not visible from the street but it's a gem. Food was like homemade, great portions and super delicious. Gentleman who served us and cooked was very friendly and made good suggestions. Prices are very reasonable!

Me and my mum were visited London for a weekend from Northern Ireland and we specially looking for a Hungarian food just about the traditional taste. We find this gem from our place was 45 mins away but the travel well worth it. Food was amazing tasted very fresh and massive portions. The lady warm and welcoming person, very friendly. We had a good and nice atmosphere there, felt like we are at home from far away from our home town. Thank you so much for everything, if we're coming back to London again we will be call in anyway. Highly recommend this place!!
